Mutual trust bridges this gap. So between keeping up with the latest tech and working on your people management and business <span id=\"urn:enhancement-8b04c8ef\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/skill\">skills<\/span>, you&#8217;ll probably be too busy to justify writing code.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"eplus-n5A3yc wp-block-heading\">What really matters for a CTO?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-otNpCq\">As a leader, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-14061fe8\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/chief_technology_officer\">CTOs<\/span> must actively <strong>manage their <span id=\"urn:enhancement-be108a59\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/team\">team<\/span><\/strong> and find a way to explain everything tech-related to the board or other leading <span id=\"urn:enhancement-66a5b61a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/project_stakeholder\">stakeholders<\/span>. Nowadays, you are expected to know just as much about the business side as the tech side. Especially if those underneath you dwarf your knowledge about a particular subject. But if there&#8217;s mutual trust, this divide can be bridged. It does mean that you usually need to check your ego at the door as you&#8217;re mainly a <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f05e81dd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/talent_manager\">manager<\/span> for them. Not the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-7b874e0a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/oracle_database\">oracle<\/span> the board often takes you for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-ChLmdL\">Being up there on the board, you must also get a proper budget for your side of the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b5a2b4\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/organization\">organisation<\/span>. Otherwise, you can&#8217;t hire new talent or get those <span id=\"urn:enhancement-c82ddf65\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/programming_tool\">tools<\/span> implemented to ensure the company&#8217;s competitiveness going forward. If you do, you probably know why. In the end, only your resolve matters. Some like to read. Some like to watch videos. Some like to listen. Some prefer online <span id=\"urn:enhancement-a1b77bdf\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/course_education\">courses<\/span>, some prefer in-person training, others a mix of the two.
