On June 29-30, Codemotion organized in Rome the boot camp of the Tech Leadership Training program, sponsored by Facebook. The main goal of this program is to help developers in improving their skill to become great CTOs<\/a> in the future of their careers.<\/p>\n

In this article we will report on the interviews conducted with boot camp participants, to give you an idea of their thoughts and impressions about this unique experience.<\/p>\n

Omar Sagazzio<\/h3>\n

I decided to attend this program because my career is currently in an important transition stage<\/strong>. Indeed I used to be a software developer, but recently have been promoted to be a manager within my company. I consider several topics included in this program particularly relevant to a career path like mine, so I decided to attent this event.<\/p>\n

This is my first formative experience in this field, and I’m convinced that I’ll continue even in the future. Thanks to this training course, now I know that being a CTO is probably not the best choice for me<\/strong>, feeling that I better fit with a Business Unit Manager position, or as a Tech Lead. I want to remain in the technical area, although here I have known CTOs who are still involved in code writing activities.<\/p>\n

Meeting and discussing with other CTO<\/strong> here has been very useful. I am particularly satisfied with Docebo Meetup: it’s been such an eye-opening experience!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nI had the opportunity to learn about several speakers’ opinions about the role of a CTO, and I was interested in understanding whether a CTO should still writing code or not<\/strong>. I particularly enjoyed the discussions about stakeholders and company staff.<\/p>\n

I like that the whole training program was based on simplicity<\/strong> as the main value, and I strongly agree with this approach. At the end of the event, my beliefs about this were confirmed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAttending this event gave me the tools to properly manage all the weird technical request that I often receive from the business units. I have also learned how to negotiate some specific requiremments<\/strong>, and how to evaluate my team’s potential<\/strong>. Last but not least, I had the opportunity to better evaluate the implementation of technical tools, and now I have clearer ideas about next investments for improving my career and my skills.<\/p>\n

I am convinced that I will apply the new methodologies that I learned to improve my productivity.<\/p>\n

I also liked that opportunity to discuss with other CTOs<\/strong>, which allowed me to experience the different approaches and ideas of each of them. After this experience, I am very interested in attending a similar program in the future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nIt was a very interesting day: this experience gave me a practical guidance to understand the different needs in terms of business and development requirements<\/strong>. Such guidance will be very useful to find a good trade off between such requirements, in order to figure out how to spend the proper energies during the development stage.<\/p>\n

I knew about this opportunity through Codemotion, and I’m definitely interested in continuing towards this formative path in the future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nI haven’t put into practice the new methods discussed during the boot camp yet, but I have already understood several aspects of them. Attending to the boot camp was crucial to feel the importance of such methodologies in my everyday work life. I also consider extremely relevant the possibility to discuss with other attendees in such events. Indeed I’ve met many professionals and learned<\/strong> from them how the ideas explained during the course are usually put into practice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nI’m a software project manager<\/strong> and I missed some crucial technical skills. I decided to attended this program in order to understand the other side of my job, being usually involved in software development. I really enjoyed the discussions focused on the development process, like how to cut costs but keeping high quality<\/strong>. I would like to attend other programs like this in the future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nI decided to attend because I wanted to share my experience and to meet new professionals<\/strong> who are involved in jobs similar to mine. I like the approach used during the course, as well as the very young environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I found this first meetup very in line with my expectations. I’ve understood how the software development has changed over time, and the approach of managing the development team.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nI decided to attend the program for CTO training, but I also want to attend other similar programs. Il 29 e 30 Giugno, Codemotion ha organizzato a Roma il boot camp del Tech Leadership Training Program sponsorizzato da Facebook. L’obiettivo principale di questo evento \u00e8 quello di aiutare gli sviluppatori a migliorare le soft skill necessaria per diventare ottimi CTO nel prosieguo delle loro carriere.<\/p>\n

In questo articolo riassumeremo i pensieri e le impressioni ricavate direttamente dai partecipanti, con una serie di interviste effettuate durante il boot camp.<\/p>\n

Omar Sagazzio<\/h3>\n

Ho scelto questo programma perch\u00e9 la mia carriera sta subendo una transizione<\/strong>, essendo io uno sviluppatore appena promosso ad un ruolo di natura manageriale. Trovo che alcuni argomenti del programma erano inerenti a questo percorso, e quindi ho scelto di partecipare.<\/p>\n

\u00c8 il mio primo approccio formativo in questo ambito, e penso di proseguire nel futuro. Grazie a questo percorso ho capito che forse non sono adatto a fare il CTO<\/strong>, quanto piuttosto a ricoprire un incarico di manager di Business Unit<\/strong>, o Tech Lead<\/strong>. Voglio rimanere nella parte tecnica, anche se qui ho visto che ci sono CTO che continuano a scrivere codice.<\/p>\n

Il confronto con i CTO<\/strong> qui \u00e8 stato molto utile, soprattutto il Meetup con Docebo, che ho trovato particolarmente illuminante.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nHo avuto modo di ascoltare diverse opinioni degli speaker sul ruolo del CTO, cercando di capire se quest\u2019ultimo debba lavorare o meno alla scrittura del codice<\/strong>. Mi sono piaciuti particolarmente i talk di approfondimento sugli stakeholder e sul personale di una azienda.<\/p>\n

Mi piace che la semplicit\u00e0<\/strong> sia stata eletta come valore principe e mi trovo molto in accordo con questo approccio. Al termine dell’evento, posso dire di aver trovato conferma delle mie convinzioni.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nPartecipare a questo evento mi ha dato gli strumenti per gestire richieste poco sensate dal punto di vista tecnico che arrivano dal business. Ho inoltre imparato a negoziare determinati requisiti<\/strong> e a valutare le potenzialit\u00e0 di crescita del mio team<\/strong>. Infine, ho avuto modo di valutare meglio l\u2019implementazione della strumentazione tecnica, e sento di avere le idee pi\u00f9 chiare sui miei prossimi investimenti.<\/p>\n

A questo punto, credo proprio che utilizzer\u00f2 le nuove metodologie apprese per aumentare la produttivit\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Mi \u00e8 piaciuto molto il confronto con altri CTO<\/strong>, che mi ha permesso di vedere le diverse anime e il diverso approccio che le contraddistingue. Dopo questa esperienza, sono molto interessato a seguire un programma di questo tipo in futuro.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
