Thinking in terms of <strong><span id=\"urn:enhancement-de6f5f51\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/accessibility\">accessibility<\/span><\/strong> throughout the entire <span id=\"urn:enhancement-987635be\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/process_computing\">process<\/span> enables the creation of solutions for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-9e078533\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/mobile_computing\">mobile<\/span> <span id=\"urn:enhancement-77a71a49\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/application_software\">applications<\/span> and websites that are actually evolved and not merely alternative. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codemotion.com\/magazine\/dev-hub\/designer-cxo\/inclusive-design-design-for-one-design-for-all\/\">Inclusive design<\/a> makes possible a global kind of participation, with a higher <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b7d30b39\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/social_influence\">impact<\/span> on positivity exchange and emotional benefits than we would have when addressing just the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-68fd8b6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disabilities<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stefano Del Furia is the Director of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-734cabaa\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/digital_data\">Digital<\/span> <span id=\"urn:enhancement-8c478941\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/innovation\">Innovation<\/span> at Campus DaVinci and an enthusiastic adopter of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-420031e3\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/c_sharp_programming_language\">C#<\/span> and <span id=\"urn:enhancement-a6f77a0d\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/net_framework_2\">.NET<\/span> since the first <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b96782f7\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/software_versioning\">versions<\/span> in the early 2000s. He&#8217;s the author of 5 books on C#, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-9c4c0a8c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/database\">Database<\/span> <span id=\"urn:enhancement-a558609c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">Design<\/span> and <span id=\"urn:enhancement-c5c221e\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/sql\">SQL<\/span> for Microsoft Press and on computer basics for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-1f73b74e\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/revision_control_system\">RCS<\/span> Education. He gave a fascinating talk at Codemotion Rome about the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-74e34717\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/role\">role<\/span> that <span id=\"urn:enhancement-6fd2b317\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/software_developer\">developers<\/span> can play in increasing <span id=\"urn:enhancement-43392ba\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/accessibility\">accessibility<\/span> to <span id=\"urn:enhancement-aa281c1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/technology\">technology<\/span> through the use of inclusive <span id=\"urn:enhancement-682fc5f\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">design<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[jwp-video n=&#8221;1&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Venice: a prime example of a problem addresses with inclusive design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Venice has been defined as the worst <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3c800716\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/accessibility\">accessible<\/span> city in the world. With more than 100 islands connected by more than 400 bridges. It is in nearly impossible to walk from the train station to get to some miracle show you there you can see beautiful pages, this one, double bridges, multiple bridges five in the same time, many bridges, a lot of bridges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, the City council of Venice in 2015 found a solution in 2015, using curb cuts and installing curb cuts and ramps\/ This is inclusive <span id=\"urn:enhancement-adeb7ab6\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">design<\/span>. Because everybody benefits from curb cuts. Not only <strong><span id=\"urn:enhancement-7957e039\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> in wheelchairs<\/strong> but also new parents with strollers or bikers or skateboarders and this is the true magic of inclusive <span id=\"urn:enhancement-68f0d9f4\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">design<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When we don&#8217;t care about disability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Stefano shared: &#8220;When we develop and we don&#8217;t care about <span id=\"urn:enhancement-a60d836e\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disability<\/span>, normally, we follow the steps to start the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-ad0f2b26\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/project\">project<\/span>: We develop the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-9e39bf04\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/project\">project<\/span> <span id=\"urn:enhancement-cacde187\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/mobile_app\">mobile application<\/span> or websites. We do the testing unit test integration, testing <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3dcdc712\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/user_interface\">UI<\/span> testing just before the release. Then someone in the room raises their hand and says &#8216;Hey, what about <span id=\"urn:enhancement-2172aa8b\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disability<\/span>?&#8217; It&#8217;s definitely an effort thought<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we <span id=\"urn:enhancement-2c6ada53\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">design<\/span> for ourselves only, we exclude the major part of the population. So, we have to design for human <span id=\"urn:enhancement-8266b6c3\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/diversity\">diversity<\/span>, not for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-d11eba47\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disability<\/span>. With inclusive <span id=\"urn:enhancement-dc462933\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">design<\/span>, we put <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f3cf661c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> at the centre from the very start of the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3333551b\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/process_computing\">process<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The persona spectrum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span id=\"urn:enhancement-f4c45992\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/persona_user_experience\">Persona<\/span> spectrums were developed by Kat Holmes\u00a0for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/design\/inclusive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Design<\/a>. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/design\/inclusive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft defines inclusive design<\/a> as a <strong>design <span id=\"urn:enhancement-52c1ffe1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/methodology\">methodology<\/span><\/strong> that enables and draws on the full range of human <span id=\"urn:enhancement-1713d669\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/diversity\">diversity<\/span>. <span id=\"urn:enhancement-50c0ae67\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/persona_user_experience\">Persona<\/span> spectrums certainly contribute to this <span id=\"urn:enhancement-424aa982\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/goal\">goal<\/span> by creating variations of personas. These variations help reveal a wider variety of goals and pain points by examining how motivations change when a certain contextual element shifts\u2014whether that change is permanent, temporary, or situational.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/passportloverblog.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/06\/czgma28xuaaa4la.jpg\" alt=\"CzgMA28XUAAa4La\" class=\"wp-image-12797\" width=\"568\" height=\"706\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Stefano,\u201cWe use the <strong><span id=\"urn:enhancement-8f68ca30\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/persona_user_experience\">Persona<\/span> Spectrum<\/strong> to understand related mismatches and motivations across a spectrum of permanent, temporary, and situational scenarios. It\u2019s a quick <span id=\"urn:enhancement-2122e740\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/tool\">tool<\/span> to help foster empathy and to show how a solution scales to a broader <span id=\"urn:enhancement-cb5b3f89\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/audience\">audience<\/span>.\u201d So, it&#8217;s not a one size fits all. But it&#8217;s &#8220;more all for one and extend to many. When we <span id=\"urn:enhancement-27cac6d2\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/design\">design<\/span> an <span id=\"urn:enhancement-6eaa0210\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/application_software\">application<\/span> or a <span id=\"urn:enhancement-35fe4061\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/mobile_computing\">mobile<\/span> site, and when we designed for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-307f4dd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> with permanent <span id=\"urn:enhancement-af9dd72d\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disability<\/span> with this design something that benefits <span id=\"urn:enhancement-c7616f12\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> universally.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stefan gives the example of <strong>designing for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-c276ef34\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> with arm impairments<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In USA, they are only 26 K people with one arm<\/li><li>But there are 13 million with an arm injury<\/li><li>and 8 million new parents (who are often living one-handed due to holding a child)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If we were only to design for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f873d4fe\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> with one arm, we would be losing the millions of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f9d5ad59\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/audience\">audience<\/span> members who have either temporary or situational <span id=\"urn:enhancement-24a46ac7\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disabilities<\/span>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key tools for web accessibility: a critical component of inclusive design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a class=\"ek-link\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/WCAG21\/#:~:text=Web%20Content%20Accessibility%20Guidelines%20(WCAG)%202.1%20defines%20how%20to%20make,%2C%20learning%2C%20and%20neurological%20disabilities.\" target=\"_blank\">The WCAG.21 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines<\/a> covers a wide range of recommendations for <strong>making <span id=\"urn:enhancement-ab4f2a5\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/web_content\">Web content<\/span> more <span id=\"urn:enhancement-c1c9b78c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/accessibility\">accessible<\/span><\/strong>. Following these guidelines will make content more <span id=\"urn:enhancement-59d0c566\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/accessibility\">accessible<\/span> to a wider range of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-33c3c578\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> with <span id=\"urn:enhancement-677a18\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disabilities<\/span>, including accommodations for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-2a566730\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/blindness\">blindness<\/span> and <span id=\"urn:enhancement-e5ab9e04\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/visual_impairment\">low vision<\/span>, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-ce5bec3a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/hearing_loss\">deafness<\/span> and <span id=\"urn:enhancement-9f81f86a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/hearing_loss\">hearing loss<\/span>, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, and combinations of these, and some accommodation for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3e617402\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/learning_disability\">learning disabilities<\/span> and cognitive limitations; but will not address every <span id=\"urn:enhancement-d7f16a29\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/user_computing\">user<\/span> need for <span id=\"urn:enhancement-486d93ca\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/people\">people<\/span> with these <span id=\"urn:enhancement-5871b3fd\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/disability\">disabilities<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These guidelines address <span id=\"urn:enhancement-7ea01910\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/accessibility\">accessibility<\/span> of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-e0279c1a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/web_content\">web content<\/span> on <span id=\"urn:enhancement-534cebc9\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/desktop_computer\">desktops<\/span>, laptops, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f9490c8b\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/tablet_computer\">tablets<\/span>, and <span id=\"urn:enhancement-725a7bbe\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/mobile_device\">mobile devices<\/span>. Following these guidelines will also often make <span id=\"urn:enhancement-641d0af8\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/web_content\">Web content<\/span> more usable to <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b4c2491b\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/user_computing\">users<\/span> in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guidelines are based on four <span id=\"urn:enhancement-7f07a987\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl01770\/entity\/principle\">principles<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Perceivable<\/strong> &#8211; <em>Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.<\/em><br>This means that users must be able to perceive the information being presented (it can&#8217;t be invisible to all of their senses)<\/li><li><strong>Operable<\/strong> &#8211;
