Meta Changes Content Moderation

Meta announced a significant shift in content management on its platforms. Moving away from traditional moderation, the company introduced a system based on “community notes,” inspired by the model adopted by X (formerly Twitter).

This new approach allows users to add context to posts. According to the company, this should help reduce the risk of censorship and encourage more informed discussions. Meta claims this strategy balances freedom of expression with responsibility, with ongoing updates guided by user feedback to make the system increasingly effective and inclusive.

However, critics have raised concerns about three key aspects:

  1. Reduced content control: Instead of relying on experts for fact-checking, Meta delegates the task of adding context to users, raising questions about the quality and reliability of shared information.
  2. Potential rise in misinformation: Allowing users to add context might not suffice to curb the spread of false news, particularly in sensitive areas like politics or health.
  3. Political and economic motives: Some believe Meta adopted this approach to avoid accusations of censorship and respond to political pressures, especially after criticism for removing Trump-related content.

Critics argue that Meta may have relaxed its direct control over content moderation, potentially compromising efforts to combat misinformation.


The Rise of Technological Agents

2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for artificial intelligence (AI), with the technology making its way into practical applications, revolutionizing key industries, and transforming both routine and complex operations. AI is no longer limited to generating images or texts; it is radically changing fields such as drug discovery, code optimization, and climate modeling.

Major industry players like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic are working to enhance the efficiency and transparency of AI systems while addressing concerns about misuse and risk management. A particularly promising area of AI is the development of AI agents, which are expected to gain significant traction in 2025.

These agents are systems designed to handle complex and repetitive tasks with minimal supervision, such as onboarding clients, approving expenses, and managing support requests. OpenAI has described them as “the next big revolution.” Large companies like Salesforce are already adopting this technology; its Agentforce system is implemented in over 200 companies, including Accenture, FedEx, and IBM. According to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, this marks “the rise of digital work,” a shift that promises to cut costs and improve operational efficiency.

Oracle and JavaScript: What’s Happening?

Oracle has confirmed it will retain its trademark on the term “JavaScript,” despite concerns raised by the tech community. This right was acquired by Oracle in 2009 when it purchased Sun Microsystems, the original owner of the JavaScript trademark.

This decision has sparked heated debate among developers, who argue that “JavaScript” is now a common term and should not be controlled by a single entity. In 2024, the startup Deno filed a petition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to annul the trademark, claiming the term is generic and widely used across the tech community.

Oracle has stated it will continue to enforce its trademark while assuring the community that it will not interfere with the everyday use of the term.


Google Launches Home APIs for Android Developers

Google announced the public beta release of Home APIs for Android developers, enhancing opportunities for customization and integration in smart homes. These new APIs enable developers to seamlessly integrate Google Home devices like thermostats, lights, and smart locks into their applications, creating more personalized and interactive user experiences.
