Interview with ANTIMO MUSONE
About the Talk “COGNITIVE BOT”
Presented to the FACEBOOK DEVELOPER CIRCLE ROME community
On 27/06/2018

Hi Antimo. Tell us who you are and which communities you belong to.

Hi everyone. My name is Antimo, I’m a computer engineer and I’ve been working in the IT world for about 13 years. I’m an expert in enterprise solutions for Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, BOT and Blockchain technologies. I also follow and create content for various communities such as Facebook Developer Circle Rome, IBM Cloud Italy and DotNet {Podcast}.

Talk about Cognitive BOT.

Regarding Cognitive BOT, for several years now many services have been emerging from the market’s big players: Microsoft, IBM, Google. These services allow the machine to perceive reality as we perceive it: allow machines, programs and applications to recognise objects from images, or to analyse human language and be able to extract entities and relationships. This is a new fuel for new applications: in the coming years scenarios will open up with apps built according to these cognitive services, in order to offer functionality that’s more “thinking” and more deliberate. Obviously they can’t replace people, but they can increase potential and productivity for the app users.

Who should be interested in these BOTs? Are there any companies that should use them to upgrade or speed up their procedures?

Applications with Cognitive Services, in my opinion, are a great step forward for the entire manufacturing and logistics industry, Public Administration, even individual citizens. It’s applicable everywhere: for inspecting paper documents or in the security field. Developing applications that can recognise objects and people, thereby preventing dangers or providing warnings or alerts, is certainly useful for the whole of society. But they also have a more social use. Microsoft has released an application called CIE (Customer Immersion Experience), which is a mobile application which people with visual and hearing impairments can use to frame objects, and then the application will tell them what they’re viewing. Or even read texts. Cognitive Services can be applied across different fields.
