The cloud is a universe of its own. There are vast amount of possible skills, specializations, and tools that involve not only the IT team but also the whole organisation. This talk called “Seriously gaming your cloud expertise: from cloud tourist to cloud-native” shares key insights. As Dongen explains, AWS alone offers 200 services alone while Azure offers roughly 275, and that’s if you don’t consider things like Docker, Kubernetes, serverless, ML, Internet of Things, cloud security, and more. It’s hard for a developer to master all these areas, so, choosing a clear path and the right skill set is essential for anyone who wants to go from cloud-newby to cloud-wizard.

Learn cloud with Piet van Dongen

Piet is a Cloud Transformation Consultant at Luminis. He loves to help companies with identifying business opportunities thanks to technology. He likes to share his knowledge by writing, lecturing, training, or speaking at conferences like Codemotion, DevOpsDays, re:Invent, and Luminis DevCon.

He spreads knowledge about cloud transformations, including migrations, skill development, and technology. Besides being a speaker, he is an active software community member: he is one of the Community Leaders of the Dutch AWS User Group and an AWS Community Builder.
